Like most out there, you probably have a cup of coffee each morning, sitting on your upholstery with your half eyes on news paper. Or perhaps you enjoy a tea walking around, and suddenly you spill your drink over the upholstery or carpet. It happens to all of us, but it creates a mess and makes them dirty with “unwanted” brown stains.
But no need to worry now! I am giving you some basic tips to clean this mess right away following 5 easy steps.
Step 1: Act Fast
As all carpet stains, it is best to remove them as soon as possible because the longer you leave a stain, the more difficult it is to remove. So react quickly and absorb as much of the spill as possible with the help of a paper towel or white cloth.
Step 2: Wet and Blot
When there is no more tea or coffee then pours a small amount of cold water (make sure not hot, to avoid “setting” the stain) onto the stained area and then blot dry it until the liquid is not being transferred onto your towel. If you are using a cloth rather than paper towel then ensure that the cloth is colorfast.
Step 3: Detergent Cleaning
Make a solution of one teaspoon clear, mild liquid dish washing detergent and one cup lukewarm water, and dab this solution liberally onto the stained area( please perform a patch test on a hidden part of the carpet first to ensure that the solution won’t damage it). Now leave the solution in place of the affected area to settle in the depth. And then blot up again as much of the solution as possible.
Step 4: Vinegar Cleaning
If the detergent solution is fail to clean the stain then make a solution of 1/3 cup white vinegar and 2/3 cup of lukewarm water, now dab it onto the stain and let it settle and work in the depth of the carpet. After certain time blot the affected area with white cloth.
Step 5: Rinse and Dry
After vinegar cleaning rinse the area again using cold water and blot it until dry. Now you will found your carpet stain free.
Please Note:
- Always use a clean, white cloth to ensure that dyes from the cloth won’t run into the carpet, or use a paper towel.
- Never scrub carpets otherwise it can damage the fibers.
- The scrubbing also can spread the stain.
