Now a day’s lather furniture is becoming popular due to its durability and great natural shiny look. Leather upholstery can easily match with you home interiors and looks beautiful too.
There is no doubt like other upholstery they require timely cleaning and maintenance for their long lasting beauty and life. Wiping them with a wet cloth or applying any cleaner is not enough. You should know the right techniques so that it doesn’t harm leather and maintain its natural shine. Following are some important guidelines to help you in leather cleaning.
Get Ready with Following Equipments:
- Vacuum cleaner
- Bucket
- Distilled water
- Mild liquid facial
- Leather protector
- 4 clean napkins
Steps to Follow:
Step 1:
Vacuum the furniture thoroughly to eliminate the dust and hidden particles. Use soft brush attachment during vacuuming to avoid scratch marks on the leather.
Step 2:
Prepare a solution by mixing few drops of mild liquid facial and ¼ liter distilled water, mix it until it reach suds form. Before use, test cleaning solution on small inconspicuous area of the furniture.
Step 3:
Dip a napkin in cleaning solution and wring out thoroughly. Use clean and soft napkins to avoid scratches.
Step 4:
Wipe the surface of the furniture with the dump napkin (make sure one section at a time).
Step 5:
Dip another napkin in clean distilled water and wipe the same section, make sure to eliminate all soap residues.
Step 6:
Dry thoroughly with the third napkin and buff the whole surface to restore luster.
Step 7:
Apply leather protector or conditioner as per product instructions.
Above steps will eliminate most of the stains from leather. However in some special case follow below guidelines.
How to remove some “Special Stains” from Leather?
Ink Stains:
Dip a cotton swab in ISOPROPHL (rubbing alcohol) and rub over the ink stain. Dry it with clean napkin.
Food Stains:
Apply a pest of lemon juice and tartar on the stain and leave it for at least 10 minutes and then remove the pest and clean as above general cleaning procedure.
Grease Stains:
Simply wipe the stain using a dry cloth. Do not apply water or any cleaning solution.
