Dry Carpet Cleaning and Wet Carpet Cleaning both are professional cleaning methods and have been used since the advent of carpet. But from the first use of these methods, it appears as a subject of endless debate that which one is better.
Many dry carpet cleaning companies says that the Wet Cleaning (also known as Hot Water Extraction) method harms your carpets, leaving your carpets sopping wet, where mold can grow. On the other side the companies which promote wet carpet cleaning claims that Dry or Low Moisture Cleaning methods are only able to clean the ¾ depth of the carpet, they don’t clean as deep as wet cleaning can.
Both dry and wet cleaning methods have their advantages as well as disadvantages. Some of them are given below.
Cleaning Efficiency: On the aspect of cleaning the wet cleaning methods (Hot Water Extraction and Shampooing) are more effective then the dry cleaning. They clean almost 99% contamination from the carpet and eliminate harmful monster, while the dry cleaning is considered surface cleaning where the ¾ depth of carpet is cleaned, it unable to remove the harmful contaminates which get stick with bottom fibers of the carpet.
Drying Time: Drying time is an important factor for industrial carpet cleaning when there is a heavy traffic. In such case dry cleaning method is much efficient and time savvy. It is just ready to use after cleaning where wet cleaning needs 6 to 8 hours for drying.
Traffic Downtime: For heavy traffic areas dry cleaning method are more preferable. It allows using the carpets just after the cleaning.
Weather: Weather also plays an important role to select the cleaning method, in winter season or at high humidity places the dry cleaning method is preferred to avoid the extra downtime while at the hot places the wet cleaning methods are used to get the best cleaning results.
Fabric Limitation: Generally both cleaning methods are safe and approved for all type of fabric cleaning but in some cases such as silk and woolen carpets the dry cleaning method comes with high advantages over the wet cleaning.
Environment Friendly: The wet cleaning (Hot Water Extraction) methods use detergent and hot water in cleaning process which are biodegradable and harm less for the environment but the cleaning materials which are used in dry cleaning methods are highly toxic and can harms the environment if not treated with proper degradable mechanism.
